Oven workflow

Oven Diagnostic Workflow

Distinguish temperature sensor, door lock, keypad, control, and heating symptoms with clear safety boundaries.

Safety Boundary

Stop before gas service, live high-voltage testing, control-board replacement, or bypassing a lock or thermal safety device.

Start Here

  • Turn the oven off if it overheats or will not respond.
  • Let surfaces cool before touching racks or panels.
  • Record whether the issue appears during preheat, self-clean, bake, broil, or door lock.
  • Check the manual for lockout or Sabbath mode before assuming failure.

Decision Path

  1. Temperature runaway or no heat: Temperature sensor, relay, and control faults have different risk levels.
Next: Review sensor and heating codes.
  2. Door locked or self-clean issue: Do not force the latch. Let the unit cool and follow lock-code guidance.
Next: Use door-lock and self-clean codes.
  3. Keypad or display fault: Separate stuck key, control lock, and board symptoms.
Next: Compare keypad and control codes.

Stop and Call for Service

  • Gas smell
  • Oven will not shut off
  • Door lock forced or jammed
  • Visible arcing or scorched wiring
